Fuel and Naira Note Shortages: Falana Threatens to Lead Nationwide Protest

The Alliance on Surviving Covid-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), a group led by human rights attorney Femi Falana, has warned of a statewide demonstration if the Federal Government fails to resolve the fuel and naira note shortages in the country.

In a statement signed by Falana, the group’s interim head, on Monday, the group stated that the currency and fuel crises pose an unprecedented threat to the economic survival of regular people and may jeopardize the 2023 elections.

“Unless the twin crises of fuel and currency scarcity are resolved immediately within the timeframe specified by the President, ASCAB has resolved to call on the Nigerian people to initiate a series of peaceful mass actions in their communities to resist the unjustifiable economic hardship that may force postponement of the upcoming elections, as INEC has hinted.

If the Federal Government fails to overcome the twin problems of gasoline and money scarcity by February 10, 2023, the Nigerian people would engage in national nonviolent mass demonstrations, according to ASCAB.
