No talks With Atiku -Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council

Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council

The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council stated that the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, is not in communication with his Peoples Democratic Party opponent, Atiku Abubakar (PDP).

In a statement released on Wednesday, Diran Onifade, the Campaign Council’s Head of Media, stated that Obi had no plans to resign in favor of Atiku.

According to reports, Atiku is in discussions with Obi and the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of this month’s presidential election.

However, Obi’s campaign team stated that the report is completely false and without foundation, claiming that the former governor of Anambra State is running for the top job at Aso Rock to win and not to resign.

The message said, in part, “We have been swamped with inquiries on the claim that our presidential ticket and the camp of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are now in discussions.”

“For emphasis, we would want to reiterate, as we have all day, that the accusation is utterly incorrect and without foundation. We are not in discussions with Atiku or anyone else to withdraw from a campaign when we are the frontrunner.

“Peter Obi is in the race to win in accordance with the aspirations of the majority of Nigerians, who want a New Nigeria devoid of lies, corruption, and self-serving plotting,”

Obi was a member of the PDP until a few weeks prior to the PDP presidential primaries in May of last year, when he left the party “on principle.” Later, he would win the LP’s presidential nomination. Obi, Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election under the PDP banner, often referred to the former vice-president as his “older brother.”
