President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive for the prompt review of the severance package for retired police officers, aiming to recognize and honor their significant contributions to national development. This announcement was made during the formal launch of the Nigeria Police Force Veterans’ Foundation at the headquarters of the Police Service Commission in Jabi, Abuja.

In his address at the event, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to signing an executive order establishing a ‘National Police and Veterans’ Day’. This day will serve as an occasion to commemorate the heroism, patriotism, and selfless sacrifices of both serving and retired police officers for the betterment of Nigeria.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the invaluable efforts of police veterans, highlighting their unwavering professionalism and dedication to maintaining peace and security in the country. He pledged to prioritize the enhancement of pension and severance packages for retired officers to reflect the magnitude of their service to the nation.

Furthermore, the President proposed setting aside a specific date, potentially March 5th or April 1st, as National Police and Veterans’ Day. This day will serve as a testament to the courage, hard work, and selflessness demonstrated by police officers throughout their careers.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, echoed President Tinubu’s sentiments, describing retired police officers as national heroes. He emphasized their role in upholding professionalism and sacrificing their lives for the country’s peace and stability.

Arase called for widespread support from the society to realize the objectives of the Veterans’ Foundation, stressing the importance of collective efforts in improving the welfare of retired police personnel. He urged Nigerians to join hands in providing assistance and support to ensure the well-being of these esteemed veterans.

The establishment of the Nigeria Police Force Veterans’ Foundation marks a significant step towards recognizing the contributions of retired police officers and ensuring their welfare and dignity in retirement. Through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to honoring their service, the nation can express gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by these dedicated individuals.
