Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Declines Request to Air Court Proceedings

Haruna Tsammani, chief justice of the Presidential Election Petition Court, denied the request for live coverage of court proceedings.

Monday at the 2023 Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja, the judge ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party’s (PDP and LP) petition lacked merit.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, filed an application on May 8 for an order to allow live coverage of the daily court proceedings in the case they brought against Bola Tinubu following the February 25 election.

The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, also requested that the proceedings of the tribunal be televised.

A week later, Tinubu opposed the request for a live broadcast of the election petition proceedings, arguing that it was an abuse of court process.
