{"id":8656,"date":"2026-01-02T13:34:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T13:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shakamomodu.com\/?p=8656"},"modified":"2026-01-02T13:34:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T13:34:01","slug":"court-adjourns-ruling-on-bail-for-ex-agf-malami-orders-continued-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shakamomodu.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/02\/court-adjourns-ruling-on-bail-for-ex-agf-malami-orders-continued-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Adjourns Ruling on Bail for Ex-AGF Malami, Orders Continued Detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"258\" data-end=\"547\">The <strong data-start=\"262\" data-end=\"293\">Federal High Court in Abuja<\/strong> has adjourned its ruling on the bail applications of former <strong data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"409\">Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami<\/strong>, his son <strong data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"439\">Abdulaziz Malami<\/strong>, and his wife <strong data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"470\">Asabe Bashir<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"487\">January 7<\/strong>, ordering that they remain in custody pending the decision.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"739\">Justice <strong data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"572\">Emeka Nwite<\/strong> issued the directive after hearing arguments from both the defence and the prosecution in the case brought by the <strong data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"738\">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"771\">EFCC Files 16-Count Charge<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"773\" data-end=\"990\">The trio is standing trial on a <strong data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"824\">16-count charge<\/strong> bordering on the alleged concealment of illicit funds amounting to <strong data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"910\">\u20a61.014 billion<\/strong> and the unlawful acquisition of assets valued at several <strong data-start=\"968\" data-end=\"989\">billions of naira<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"1051\">All three defendants pleaded <strong data-start=\"1021\" data-end=\"1035\">not guilty<\/strong> to the charges.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1093\">Defence, Prosecution Clash Over Bail<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1095\" data-end=\"1303\">Counsel to the defendants, <strong data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1144\">Joseph Daudu (SAN)<\/strong>, argued that the EFCC had previously granted the accused administrative bail and therefore lacked justification to oppose their application for judicial bail.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1305\" data-end=\"1462\">However, EFCC lead counsel, <strong data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1358\">Ekele Iheanacho (SAN)<\/strong>, opposed the bail request, urging the court to dismiss it on grounds that the application lacked merit.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1497\">Court Cites Vacation Schedule<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1499\" data-end=\"1636\">In adjourning the ruling, Justice Nwite explained that he was sitting as a <strong data-start=\"1574\" data-end=\"1592\">vacation judge<\/strong> and had several pending rulings to deliver.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1870\">He ordered that <strong data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1685\">Abubakar Malami and his son<\/strong> remain at the <strong data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1728\">Kuje Correctional Centre<\/strong>, while <strong data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1752\">Asabe Bashir<\/strong> should continue her detention at the <strong data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1820\">Suleja Correctional Centre<\/strong> until the court delivers its ruling on January 7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned its ruling on the bail applications of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife Asabe Bashir to January 7, ordering that they remain in custody pending the decision.
