This matter must not be swept under the carpet,\u201d Osigwe said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1229\" data-end=\"1433\">He emphasised that the <strong data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1356\">resignation of a public official accused of forgery does not absolve them of criminal responsibility<\/strong>, adding that the process must be transparent and the findings made public.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1438\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1440\" data-end=\"1509\"><strong data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1507\">Atiku: Tinubu\u2019s Government Promotes Forgery as State Policy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1510\" data-end=\"1680\">Former Vice President <strong data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1550\">Atiku Abubakar<\/strong> also condemned the incident, accusing the <strong data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"1618\">Tinubu administration<\/strong> of institutionalising forgery and deceit in public service.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1682\" data-end=\"1817\">In a strongly worded statement, Atiku argued that <strong data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1783\">Nnaji should have been dismissed and prosecuted<\/strong>, not allowed to resign quietly.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1819\" data-end=\"2082\">\n<p data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"2082\">\u201cThis episode reflects a pattern\u2014a rot that begins from the top,\u201d he said. \u201cThe man who leads this country has himself faced unresolved controversies over his identity and academic records. When deception leads the nation, forgery becomes governance culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2084\" data-end=\"2243\">Atiku demanded an <strong data-start=\"2102\" data-end=\"2200\">independent investigation into the credentials of all members of the Federal Executive Council<\/strong>, starting with President Tinubu himself.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2248\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2250\" data-end=\"2318\"><strong data-start=\"2254\" data-end=\"2316\">Senior Lawyers: Prosecution Necessary to Restore Integrity<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2458\">Several SANs, including <strong data-start=\"2343\" data-end=\"2361\">John Baiyeshea<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2363\" data-end=\"2378\">Moses Ebute<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2384\" data-end=\"2407\">Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa<\/strong>, backed the call for a full-scale investigation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2460\" data-end=\"2642\">Baiyeshea noted that it is the <strong data-start=\"2491\" data-end=\"2523\">police\u2019s constitutional duty<\/strong> to investigate and prosecute crimes, while Ebute stressed that resignation alone cannot cleanse the alleged offence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2644\" data-end=\"2664\">Adegboruwa warned:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2665\" data-end=\"2811\">\n<p data-start=\"2667\" data-end=\"2811\">\u201cResignation should not be a get-out-of-jail-free card. Forgery is a criminal act. Anyone found guilty must face prosecution to deter others.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2813\" data-end=\"3045\">However, <strong data-start=\"2822\" data-end=\"2846\">George Ibrahim (SAN)<\/strong> disagreed, arguing that Nnaji\u2019s resignation was enough, suggesting political undertones behind the allegations since the <strong data-start=\"2968\" data-end=\"3007\">University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)<\/strong> had reportedly cleared him in 2023.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3047\" data-end=\"3050\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3052\" data-end=\"3104\"><strong data-start=\"3056\" data-end=\"3102\">Civil Society Groups Demand Accountability<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3105\" data-end=\"3302\">The <strong data-start=\"3109\" data-end=\"3163\">Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3168\" data-end=\"3200\">HallowMace Foundation Africa<\/strong> joined the calls for accountability, urging a <strong data-start=\"3247\" data-end=\"3263\">lifetime ban<\/strong> on Nnaji from holding public office.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3304\" data-end=\"3424\">CISLAC\u2019s Executive Director, <strong data-start=\"3333\" data-end=\"3360\">Auwal Musa (Rafsanjani)<\/strong>, said Nnaji only resigned due to public pressure, not honour.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3426\" data-end=\"3585\">\n<p data-start=\"3428\" data-end=\"3585\">\u201cHe even went to court to stop the university from releasing his records. Such individuals should never be allowed to hold public office again,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3587\" data-end=\"3733\">HallowMace Foundation also called for public apologies from the <strong data-start=\"3651\" data-end=\"3680\">DSS and National Assembly<\/strong>, accusing them of failing in their vetting duties.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3735\" data-end=\"3738\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3740\" data-end=\"3799\"><strong data-start=\"3744\" data-end=\"3797\">ADC: Tinubu\u2019s Weak Response Encourages Dishonesty<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3800\" data-end=\"3932\">The <strong data-start=\"3804\" data-end=\"3841\">African Democratic Congress (ADC)<\/strong> described the President\u2019s acceptance of Nnaji\u2019s resignation as \u201cweak and disappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3934\" data-end=\"4161\">\n<p data-start=\"3936\" data-end=\"4161\">\u201cBy letting him go quietly, Tinubu has shown he is unwilling to take a strong stand against corruption. This confirms the APC as a nest of certificate forgers,\u201d said <strong data-start=\"4102\" data-end=\"4122\">Bolaji Abdullahi<\/strong>, ADC\u2019s National Publicity Secretary.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4163\" data-end=\"4337\">The ADC maintained that <strong data-start=\"4187\" data-end=\"4239\">forgery is a criminal act, not a private offence<\/strong>, and urged law enforcement agencies to <strong data-start=\"4279\" data-end=\"4310\">launch an independent probe<\/strong> to restore public trust.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4339\" data-end=\"4342\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"4344\" data-end=\"4388\"><strong data-start=\"4348\" data-end=\"4386\">Activists Demand Independent Panel<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4389\" data-end=\"4552\">Rivers-based activist <strong data-start=\"4411\" data-end=\"4427\">Chetam Nwala<\/strong> and other civic voices urged the President to set up an <strong data-start=\"4484\" data-end=\"4519\">independent investigative panel<\/strong> to examine the forgery claims.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4554\" data-end=\"4749\">\n<p data-start=\"4556\" data-end=\"4749\">\u201cThis saga exposes how compromised Nigeria\u2019s institutions have become.
