The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)<\/strong> has escalated, with the party\u2019s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu<\/strong>, accusing the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illya Damagum<\/strong>, of breaching the PDP constitution.<\/p>\n

In a petition dated October 1, 2025<\/strong>, Anyanwu faulted recent actions by the chairman, particularly regarding conflicting correspondences to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)<\/strong> over the conduct of the Cross River State Congress election.<\/p>\n

National Secretary Cites Constitutional Breaches<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Anyanwu referenced Section 36(1b & e) of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended)<\/strong>, which empowers the National Secretary to oversee party correspondences, issue notices for key meetings, and ensure the implementation of resolutions.<\/p>\n

He accused Damagum of undermining his office, stressing that:<\/p>\n

\u201cAny action or decision purportedly reached by an illegally constituted National Working Committee is null and void.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Controversy Over Dissolution of State Executives<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The petition also rejected the recent dissolution of the Akwa Ibom and Cross River State Working Committees<\/strong> and the appointment of caretaker committees, declaring them unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

Anyanwu insisted that the meeting which led to the decision was invalid since the notice was not issued by his office<\/strong>, as required by the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n

Warning to Party Leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Describing the chairman\u2019s actions as provocative and unacceptable<\/strong>, the National Secretary warned that continued disregard for constitutional provisions would have legal consequences.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIt is high time you retraced your steps and conducted the affairs of our party in strict compliance with the constitution. A stitch in time saves nine,\u201d Anyanwu wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The dispute underscores growing factional tensions within the PDP ahead of critical political realignments.<\/p>\n
