Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi<\/strong>, has strongly condemned the demolition of plazas at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, describing the action as unlawful, unjust, and economically damaging.<\/p>\n

The demolitions were carried out by officials of the Lagos Ministry of Physical Planning, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.<\/p>\n

Obi, who visited the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) section of the market on Tuesday, was accompanied by Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), among other lawmakers.<\/p>\n

Condemnation of the Demolition<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Obi revealed that the buildings had valid government approvals and criticised the demolitions as unlawful and reckless.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of the affected traders invested heavily \u2014 often through loans \u2014 in the hope of securing their livelihoods and contributing to the wider economy. To destroy such legitimate investments without due process is not only unjust but also economically destructive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He commended the traders for showing restraint despite the painful loss and warned that such incidents undermine investor confidence in the country.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers to Investigate<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The former Anambra governor disclosed that some senators and members of the House of Representatives have pledged to investigate the demolitions<\/strong> and uncover the circumstances behind the controversial operation.<\/p>\n

Call for Justice and Compassion<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Obi urged government at all levels to act with fairness and compassion, especially during this period of economic hardship.<\/p>\n
