Speaking at the <em data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"703\">Mission 300 Stakeholders Engagement Meeting<\/em> in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, said <strong data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"846\">$15.5 billion of this funding must come from private sector investment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"1002\">The event, hosted at the Transcorp Hilton, brought together high-level stakeholders to strategize on the path toward closing Nigeria\u2019s energy access gap.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1062\"><strong data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1062\">Mission 300: Powering 300 Million Africans by 2030<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1322\">The Mission 300 initiative, led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank (AfDB), aims to connect <strong data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1244\">300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa to electricity by 2030<\/strong>. Nigeria is a key part of this vision, given its population and energy needs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1504\">Adelabu said the government is laying a sustainable foundation for the energy sector through structural reforms and innovation, critical for driving long-term economic development.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1621\">\n<p data-start=\"1508\" data-end=\"1621\">\u201cMobilising this level of financing will demand innovation, coordination, and a shared commitment,\u201d Adelabu said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1850\">He called on development partners, philanthropic institutions, the private sector, and civil society to align efforts to deliver results, moving from policy talk to real-life impact in hospitals, schools, industries, and homes.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1852\" data-end=\"1919\"><strong data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"1919\">Key Priorities: Liquidity, Clean Energy, and Grid Stability<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"2013\">The Minister outlined several priority areas in the government\u2019s power sector reform agenda:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2547\">\n<li data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2134\">\n<p data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2134\"><strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2048\">Clearing a \u20a64 trillion debt<\/strong> owed to generation companies due to unpaid government subsidies (as of December 2024)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2135\" data-end=\"2237\">\n<p data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2237\">Transitioning to a <strong data-start=\"2156\" data-end=\"2189\">cost-reflective tariff regime<\/strong> with targeted subsidies for vulnerable citizens<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2238\" data-end=\"2333\">\n<p data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2333\"><strong data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2273\">Expanding generation capacity<\/strong>, including tapping idle assets and integrating clean energy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2334\" data-end=\"2409\">\n<p data-start=\"2336\" data-end=\"2409\">Strengthening <strong data-start=\"2350\" data-end=\"2379\">national grid reliability<\/strong> to prevent frequent collapses<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2410\" data-end=\"2547\">\n<p data-start=\"2412\" data-end=\"2547\">Boosting the <strong data-start=\"2425\" data-end=\"2449\">distribution segment<\/strong> through programs like the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) and the World Bank-funded DISREP<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2743\">Adelabu also emphasized expanding rural electrification, investing in renewables, and enhancing human capital through the ministry\u2019s training institute to reduce import reliance and create jobs.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2745\" data-end=\"2800\"><strong data-start=\"2749\" data-end=\"2800\">Finance Minister: Power Reforms Driving Results<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2802\" data-end=\"3053\">Joining virtually from Brazil, Minister of Finance Wale Edun praised the reform efforts, noting they had led to a <strong data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"2965\">40% increase in power distribution in Q1 2025<\/strong>.
