In a bold declaration of renewed strength, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Bode George has hailed the party’s just-concluded 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as a turning point\u2014describing it as a \u201cresurrection\u201d of Nigeria\u2019s foremost opposition party.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking on ARISE News following the pivotal gathering, George emphasized that the PDP had rediscovered its foundational principles after a turbulent period marked by internal conflicts and strategic missteps. He likened the renewed unity to a family finding its rhythm again after discord.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cToday\u2019s meeting marks the resurrection of the PDP,\u201d George said. \u201cWe have rules, a constitution, and a clear ground norm. Anyone who cannot align with these must step aside.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The elder statesman and member of the party’s Board of Trustees acknowledged the PDP\u2019s missteps, particularly its last national convention, but maintained that key lessons had been learned.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe messed up the last convention, and that\u2019s why we\u2019re here today. But tomorrow begins a new chapter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

One of the meeting\u2019s major outcomes was the reaffirmation of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary. While some dissent remained, George called for maturity, understanding, and emotional intelligence in leadership, stating that politics requires give-and-take.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cPolitics is like family. You win some, you lose some. But issues must never be taken to the public square.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He also urged returning leaders, including Anyanwu, to lead with restraint and avoid vendetta-driven actions.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cHe must moderate himself. Leadership is about humility, not revenge,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Refuting rumors that the PDP is on the verge of collapse, George likened the party to a resilient Iroko tree\u2014deep-rooted and bigger than any individual.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome said PDP is finished. I told them, \u2018Do you abandon your family when it faces problems?\u2019 This party is not owned by any one person\u2014it\u2019s a structure with values, intellect, and character.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He took a veiled swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contrasting PDP\u2019s adherence to procedure with what he described as APC\u2019s top-down approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t appoint a chairman at NEC. We\u2019ll go to the national convention. That\u2019s the Iroko party difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The PDP is expected to reconvene in July to finalize plans for its next national convention. George concluded by affirming the party\u2019s commitment to rebuilding public trust.<\/p>\n
