Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele<\/strong> has released a comprehensive midterm report<\/strong> outlining the achievements of the 10th National Assembly<\/strong> over the past two years, while calling for deeper reforms to secure Nigeria\u2019s democratic and economic future.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a statement commemorating Democracy Day (June 12)<\/strong>, Bamidele reflected on Nigeria\u2019s post-military journey and emphasized that the midpoint of the legislative tenure is a time to evaluate progress, assess challenges<\/strong>, and renew national commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cReaching this midterm milestone is not just symbolic. It\u2019s a call to reflection on our democratic gains,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Strategic Collaboration, Not Rubber-Stamping, Driving Results \u2014 Bamidele<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Addressing public criticism of the legislature being a \u201crubber stamp,\u201d Bamidele argued that the Senate\u2019s collaborative stance with the executive<\/strong> had produced more results than adversarial politics in previous Assemblies.<\/p>\n

He explained that working constructively with the presidency\u2014without compromising constitutional independence<\/strong>\u2014enabled the passage of impactful laws and policies, rather than political deadlock.<\/p>\n

Between June 2023 and June 2025<\/strong>, the Assembly passed or amended 108 laws<\/strong>, many of them focused on public welfare and economic transformation.<\/p>\n

Student Loan Act and Tax Reforms Named Top Achievements<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Among the standout legislative accomplishments, Bamidele cited the:<\/p>\n

    Tax Reform Bills, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 expected to boost investor confidence<\/strong> and raise Nigeria\u2019s GDP to $1 trillion by 2030<\/strong>, pending presidential assent.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Surge in Bills, Oversight, and Confirmations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Bamidele reported a notable increase in legislative performance:<\/p>\n

      He stressed that effective governance goes beyond legislation, highlighting the Senate\u2019s increased responsiveness to citizen complaints and institutional accountability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Focus Shifts to Constitutional and Electoral Reform<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Looking ahead, Bamidele said the Senate\u2019s focus would include:<\/p>\n

        Reducing inflation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Additionally, electoral reform<\/strong> remains a top priority to ensure a stronger, more representative democracy.<\/p>\n
