Abuja, Nigeria \u2013<\/strong> A fresh wave of controversy has engulfed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)<\/strong> following a denial by the party\u2019s National Working Committee (NWC) that Senator Samuel Anyanwu<\/strong> signed the official nomination documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)<\/strong> for the Anambra 2025 governorship election<\/strong>\u2014despite Anyanwu’s insistence that he did.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba<\/strong> refuted media reports suggesting Anyanwu resumed his role as National Secretary to endorse the candidate list. The party clarified that the forms submitted to INEC were signed by Acting National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo<\/strong>, and Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe report is false and intended to mislead the public and create confusion within the party,\u201d Ologunagba stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He referenced official documents\u2014including a nomination letter dated May 7, 2025<\/strong>, and another from May 5, 2025<\/strong>\u2014both co-signed by the acting officials and in compliance with Section 36 (2) of the PDP Constitution.<\/p>\n

Anyanwu Disputes Denial, Claims He Signed Under Pressure<\/h3>\n

Contrary to the NWC\u2019s position, Senator Anyanwu maintains that he indeed signed the nomination forms<\/strong> after being persuaded by high-ranking party figures<\/strong>, including a governor and a member of the Saraki-led reconciliation committee<\/strong>. He claimed that INEC rejected the initial documents signed by Koshoedo due to procedural irregularities.<\/p>\n

\u201cINEC rejected the earlier form. I was persuaded to sign it to save the party from embarrassment,\u201d Anyanwu told THISDAY<\/em>. \u201cDebo Ologunagba is not in the loop. I did what I did in the party\u2019s best interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Saraki Committee Seeks Unity, Reconciliation<\/h3>\n

The unfolding drama comes as the Saraki-led strategy committee<\/strong> works to heal growing rifts within the PDP. Senator Anyanwu hinted that the leadership crisis had been addressed by the committee, paving the way for a unified front ahead of the party\u2019s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting<\/strong> on May 27<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Party elder Chief Bode George<\/strong> also weighed in during an interview with ARISE Television<\/strong>, condemning the recent defections of top PDP figures and calling them \u201ca disgrace\u201d to the legacy of the party\u2019s founders.<\/p>\n

\u201cA divided house will remain a defeated house,\u201d George warned. \u201cNo individual is bigger than this party.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He stressed the importance of reconciliation and urged the Saraki committee to prioritize healing and unity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis reconciliation effort is our last bridge before the next meeting. Let us rebuild, not self-destruct.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
