This strategic move is central to the CBN\u2019s goal of achieving <strong data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1136\">$1 billion in monthly diaspora remittances<\/strong>, translating to an estimated $12 billion annually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1489\">CBN Governor <strong data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1221\">Olayemi Cardoso<\/strong> described the platform as a transformative step toward a more inclusive and globally integrated financial ecosystem. He emphasized that the digital gateway removes longstanding barriers that have restricted access to Nigeria\u2019s financial services by overseas citizens.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1491\" data-end=\"1728\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1728\">\u201cThe NRBVN is a milestone in bridging the gap between Nigeria and its global citizens,\u201d Cardoso said. \u201cIt enhances trust, improves affordability, and expands access to secure financial services through stringent KYC and AML protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1730\" data-end=\"1769\">\ud83c\udf10 Reducing Cost, Increasing Impact<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1969\">The governor highlighted that the average cost of sending money to Sub-Saharan Africa remains over 7%\u2014a figure the CBN is actively working to reduce through technology-driven reforms like the NRBVN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1971\" data-end=\"2216\">According to the CBN, formal remittance inflows grew from <strong data-start=\"2029\" data-end=\"2078\">$3.3 billion in 2023 to $4.73 billion in 2024<\/strong>, thanks in part to initiatives such as the <strong data-start=\"2122\" data-end=\"2165\">willing buyer, willing seller FX regime<\/strong> and the introduction of more transparent channels.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2218\" data-end=\"2359\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2220\" data-end=\"2359\">\u201cWith NRBVN, we\u2019re not just providing digital access\u2014we\u2019re fostering innovation, national inclusion, and shared prosperity,\u201d Cardoso added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2413\">\ud83c\udfe6 Broader Financial Access for Nigerians Abroad<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2415\" data-end=\"2757\">The platform forms part of a comprehensive financial framework that includes the <strong data-start=\"2496\" data-end=\"2536\">Non-Resident Ordinary Account (NROA)<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2597\">Non-Resident Nigerian Investment Account (NRNIA)<\/strong>. These options give Nigerians abroad access to a wide range of services including savings, mortgages, pensions, and participation in Nigeria\u2019s capital markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2759\" data-end=\"2974\">Importantly, the NRBVN system is designed with <strong data-start=\"2806\" data-end=\"2837\">global regulatory standards<\/strong> in mind, incorporating <strong data-start=\"2861\" data-end=\"2892\">Anti-Money Laundering (AML)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2897\" data-end=\"2925\">Know Your Customer (KYC)<\/strong> protocols to ensure full transparency and trust.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2976\" data-end=\"3025\">\ud83e\udd1d Stakeholder Support and Global Integration<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3027\" data-end=\"3308\">Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), <strong data-start=\"3086\" data-end=\"3108\">Abike Dabiri-Erewa<\/strong>, called the NRBVN a \u201cgame changer\u201d in connecting diaspora Nigerians to national development efforts.
