Justice Emeka Nwite had granted the initial injunction on March 4 and summoned relevant Senate committees to court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1596\">Despite the order, the Senate proceeded to suspend her the following day, prompting Justice Nwite to recuse himself from the matter after Akpabio raised concerns of bias. The case was reassigned to Justice Binta Nyako, who on April 4, barred both parties and their lawyers from engaging the media on the issue.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1651\"><strong data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1651\">Akpabio Seeks Sanctions Over Satirical Letter<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1914\">On May 5, Akpabio, through a motion filed by his legal team\u2014Chief Olisa Agbakoba and Monday Ubani (both SANs)\u2014requested the court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to delete her satirical Facebook letter and apologize for allegedly violating the court\u2019s media gag order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"2120\">However, in her response, the senator claimed the Senate President\u2019s move was a calculated attempt to \u201cambush\u201d the scheduled court hearing on May 12 and prolong her suspension without judicial resolution.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2122\" data-end=\"2262\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2124\" data-end=\"2262\">\u201cThe letter was directed at the 3rd defendant and not the court, and it addressed personal misconduct, not the legal dispute,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2264\" data-end=\"2324\"><strong data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2324\">Senator Accuses Akpabio of Undermining the Judiciary<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2537\">Akpoti-Uduaghan argued that Akpabio, by allegedly defying the March and April court orders while simultaneously accusing her of contempt, was attempting to manipulate the legal process and mislead the judiciary.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2539\" data-end=\"2665\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2541\" data-end=\"2665\">\u201cHe has approached the court without clean hands, and this application is nothing more than a procedural ambush,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2667\" data-end=\"2902\">In her 28-paragraph affidavit, she maintained that the viral letter had no bearing on the substantive case and accused the Senate President of trying to derail the case\u2019s resolution, effectively denying her constituents representation.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2904\" data-end=\"3036\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2906\" data-end=\"3036\">\u201cThis motion is not only malicious but aims to frustrate justice, reward contempt, and silence a dissenting voice,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3038\" data-end=\"3171\">The court is expected to hear all pending applications, including Akpabio\u2019s motion and Akpoti-Uduaghan\u2019s opposition, on May 12, 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abuja, Nigeria \u2013 Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of attempting to suppress her right to free expression through a motion seeking to delete her viral satirical letter and compel an apology to the court.
