He was represented by NNPC\u2019s Executive Vice President, Upstream, <strong data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"696\">Udobong Ntia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"1077\">The AKK pipeline, a 614-kilometre conduit with a 40-inch diameter, is designed to transport natural gas from Ajaokuta in Kogi State through Abuja and Kaduna to Kano. It is a critical part of Nigeria\u2019s broader <strong data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"945\">Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline (TNGP)<\/strong> strategy aimed at enhancing electricity generation, revitalizing industries, and reducing environmental harm caused by gas flaring.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1313\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1081\" data-end=\"1313\">\u201cNNPC is transforming into a commercially-driven, innovation-led energy company,\u201d said Ojulari. \u201cOur teams are leveraging real-time reservoir monitoring, AI-driven imaging, and predictive maintenance to future-proof our operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1315\" data-end=\"1529\">Ojulari underscored that <strong data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1366\">digital transformation<\/strong>, supported by <strong data-start=\"1381\" data-end=\"1407\">intelligent automation<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1409\" data-end=\"1428\">data governance<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1434\" data-end=\"1454\">cyber resilience<\/strong>, is central to ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in a low-carbon world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1798\">He reiterated NNPC\u2019s alignment with Nigeria\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1603\">Energy Transition Plan<\/strong>, which aims for net-zero emissions by 2060, pointing out that the company has scaled up its autogas programme and is contributing over <strong data-start=\"1739\" data-end=\"1776\">1.5GW of installed power capacity<\/strong> to the national grid.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1803\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1805\" data-end=\"1863\">NUPRC Pushes Production Expansion, Regulatory Overhaul<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2169\">Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive of the <strong data-start=\"1920\" data-end=\"1981\">Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1983\" data-end=\"2002\">Gbenga Komolafe<\/strong>, highlighted Nigeria\u2019s upstream sector expansion. He revealed that <strong data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2144\">about 10 of the recently awarded Petroleum Prospecting Licenses (PPLs)<\/strong> are already operational.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2171\" data-end=\"2315\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2173\" data-end=\"2315\">\u201cWe are shaping a sustainable and prosperous energy landscape. The NUPRC is not just a regulator\u2014we are business enablers,\u201d Komolafe declared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2317\" data-end=\"2629\">The NUPRC has issued <strong data-start=\"2338\" data-end=\"2365\">24 priority regulations<\/strong> to streamline operations and is preparing for the <strong data-start=\"2416\" data-end=\"2440\">2025 licensing round<\/strong> under a \u201c<strong data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2467\">drill or drop<\/strong>\u201d model. This approach, backed by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), is intended to drive investment and operational discipline in the upstream oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2631\" data-end=\"2634\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2713\">Stakeholders Urge Indigenous Companies to Break &#8216;Business-as-Usual&#8217; Cycle<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2715\" data-end=\"2950\">Former Petroleum Minister, <strong data-start=\"2742\" data-end=\"2757\">Don Etiebet<\/strong>, warned that indigenous oil firms taking over assets from International Oil Companies (IOCs) must prioritise <strong data-start=\"2867\" data-end=\"2892\">sustainable financing<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2894\" data-end=\"2917\">succession planning<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2923\" data-end=\"2949\">merit-based employment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2952\" data-end=\"3126\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2954\" data-end=\"3126\">\u201cIt can\u2019t be business as usual. We must ensure finance and succession strategies are robust to support Nigeria\u2019s energy transition and local capacity development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3316\">He called for a shift from parochial employment practices to one driven by merit and technical competence, urging stakeholders to ensure that energy development benefits the entire nation.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3318\" data-end=\"3321\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3323\" data-end=\"3387\">Energy Sustainability Must Reflect Local Realities \u2014 Experts<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3389\" data-end=\"3633\">Chairman of <strong data-start=\"3401\" data-end=\"3416\">SPE Nigeria<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3418\" data-end=\"3437\">Amina Danmadami<\/strong>, highlighted the unique energy transition path for Nigeria. While the global narrative increasingly centres on renewables, she stressed that <strong data-start=\"3579\" data-end=\"3609\">oil and gas remain central<\/strong> to Nigeria\u2019s stability.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3635\" data-end=\"3839\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3637\" data-end=\"3839\">\u201cIn our context, the path to sustainability is not about displacement but <strong data-start=\"3711\" data-end=\"3727\">optimisation<\/strong>. Technology and policy must go hand in hand to improve productivity and reduce environmental impact,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3841\" data-end=\"4000\">She pointed to digital oilfields, AI-based predictive tools, and enhanced recovery techniques as game-changers that can help Nigeria achieve energy resilience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4002\" data-end=\"4238\">In a similar vein, <strong data-start=\"4021\" data-end=\"4096\">Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"4098\" data-end=\"4113\">Ahmed Aminu<\/strong>, represented by <strong data-start=\"4130\" data-end=\"4148\">Ifeoma Nwokike<\/strong>, stressed the critical interplay between policy, technology, and supply chain resilience.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"4240\" data-end=\"4243\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4245\" data-end=\"4297\">Africa\u2019s Power Gap: An Opportunity for Inclusion<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4299\" data-end=\"4479\">Ojulari also drew attention to the continent\u2019s <strong data-start=\"4346\" data-end=\"4388\">600 million people without electricity<\/strong>, describing it as both a development gap and an untapped opportunity for inclusive growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4481\" data-end=\"4673\">Citing data from the <strong data-start=\"4502\" data-end=\"4539\">International Energy Agency (IEA)<\/strong>, he said <strong data-start=\"4549\" data-end=\"4603\">global energy demand is set to rise by 25% by 2040<\/strong>, driven by industrialisation in Asia and population growth in Africa.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4675\" data-end=\"4842\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4677\" data-end=\"4842\">\u201cNigeria must be ready to meet this demand, not just as an energy exporter, but as a nation able to supply reliable power to its own people and industries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"4844\" data-end=\"4847\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4849\" data-end=\"4866\">Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4868\" data-end=\"5225\">The 2025 Oloibiri Lecture Series has once again served as a critical platform for dialogue, aligning technology, policy, and business strategy with Nigeria\u2019s energy ambitions.
