President Bola Tinubu hailed the report as evidence of progress, pledging continued reforms to ensure shared prosperity and improved living standards.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Top Sectors Driving Growth<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Key contributors to Q3 GDP included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Agriculture<\/strong> (28.65%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>ICT<\/strong> (16.35%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trade<\/strong> (14.78%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manufacturing<\/strong> (8.21%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crude Oil<\/strong> (5.57%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finance and Insurance<\/strong> (5.51%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Real Estate<\/strong> (5.43%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The economy grew year-on-year by <strong>0.92%<\/strong>, higher than the <strong>2.54%<\/strong> recorded in Q3 2023. In real terms, GDP stood at <strong>\u20a620.12 trillion<\/strong>, up from <strong>\u20a618.29 trillion<\/strong> in Q2 2024 and <strong>\u20a619.44 trillion<\/strong> in Q3 2023.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Non-Oil Sector Leads Growth<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>non-oil sector<\/strong> accounted for <strong>94.43%<\/strong> of GDP in Q3, driven by crop production, trade, telecommunications, and real estate. It grew by <strong>3.37%<\/strong> in real terms, compared to <strong>2.80%<\/strong> in Q2. Meanwhile, the oil sector contributed <strong>5.57%<\/strong>, with crude oil production averaging <strong>1.47 million barrels per day (mbpd)<\/strong>, slightly up from <strong>1.41 mbpd<\/strong> in Q2.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Presidential Commitment to Economic Prosperity<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>President Tinubu praised the GDP growth as a sign of recovery from the unintended impacts of economic reforms. He reaffirmed his administration\u2019s goal of achieving a <strong>$1 trillion economy by 2030<\/strong>, with plans to rebase the economy by early 2025 to reflect changes in key sectors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We won&#8217;t rest until Nigerians feel the positive impacts in their pockets and experience a better living standard,&#8221; Tinubu said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The president highlighted reforms, including floating the naira and removing petroleum subsidies, as steps toward fiscal discipline and economic stability.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Challenges in Manufacturing and Agriculture<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Despite positive growth, financial experts noted challenges:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Manufacturing<\/strong> contributed <strong>8.21%<\/strong> to GDP, but its growth of <strong>3.62%<\/strong> year-on-year reflects struggles under high interest and exchange rates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agriculture<\/strong> saw a slight decline in growth, contributing <strong>28.65%<\/strong> compared to <strong>29.31%<\/strong> in Q3 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prof. Uche Uwaleke, a financial analyst, criticized the dominance of the services sector over productive sectors like industry and agriculture, calling for structural economic reforms.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Economic growth does not appear inclusive, reflecting in rising unemployment and poverty levels,&#8221; Uwaleke observed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Labour Market Trends<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>Nigeria Labour Force Survey (NLFS)<\/strong> reported an increase in labor force participation to <strong>79.5%<\/strong> in Q2 2024 from <strong>77.3%<\/strong> in Q1. The combined unemployment and underemployment rate dropped to <strong>13%<\/strong>, with informal employment remaining high at <strong>93%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With GDP growth driven by non-oil sectors and reforms in place to stabilize fiscal management, experts anticipate further improvements in Nigeria\u2019s economic landscape.
