Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a stern ultimatum to contractors handling 10 federal road projects in Niger State, threatening to terminate their contracts over delays and substandard performance.<\/p>\n

The warning came during a stakeholders\u2019 meeting held at the ministry\u2019s headquarters in Abuja, attended by Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, Minister of State for Works Bello Goronyo, and Senate Committee Chairman on Finance Mohammed Sani, among others.<\/p>\n

Contractors Face Consequences for Delays<\/h3>\n

Umahi expressed frustration at contractors who had received payments but failed to deliver on their obligations. He emphasized that the Renewed Hope administration prioritizes speed, quality, and value for money<\/strong> in infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contractors must return to site without delay and ensure quality delivery. Failure to do so will result in contract termination,\u201d Umahi warned.<\/p>\n

  3. Dualisation of Ilorin\u2013Jebba\u2013Mokwa\u2013Bokani Junction Road, Sections I & II<\/strong> (CGC Nigeria Ltd).<\/li>\n
  4. Reconstruction of Bida\u2013Lapai\u2013Lambatta Road<\/strong> (CGC Nigeria Ltd).<\/li>\n
  5. Rehabilitation of Mokwa\u2013Makera\u2013Tegina\u2013Kaduna State Road<\/strong> (CGC Nigeria Ltd).<\/li>\n
  6. Rehabilitation of Minna\u2013Zungeru\u2013Tegina\u2013Kontagora Road<\/strong> (Gilmor Engineering Nig Ltd).<\/li>\n
  7. Construction of Minna\u2013Zungeru\u2013Tegina Road<\/strong> (Develeco Nig Ltd\/HMF Construction Ltd).<\/li>\n
  8. Reconstruction of Bida\u2013Cernu\u2013Wushishi\u2013Zungeru Road<\/strong> (Gerawa Global Engineering Ltd).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Niger State Governor Backs Terminations<\/h3>\n

    Governor Mohammed Bago supported the minister\u2019s move, singling out Salini Nigeria Ltd for its failure to deliver since the project\u2019s award in 2010. He called for the revocation of its contract, citing a lack of capacity.<\/p>\n

    Next Steps<\/h3>\n

    The ministry has established a committee to review the contractors\u2019 accounts and prepare for potential terminations. The Director of Legal Services has been instructed to issue termination notices where necessary. Meanwhile, the Niger State Government will recommend consultants to redesign and supervise affected projects.<\/p>\n

    Umahi announced a performance review meeting for January 2025 to assess progress on the projects.<\/p>\n
