Nigeria’s incoming president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has compared the certificate of return he received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to a “World Cup” trophy.<\/p>\n
Sunday, Tinubu spoke during a visit to the palace of Lagos’ oba, Rilwan Akinolu.<\/p>\n
INEC named Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the February 25 presidential election last week.<\/p>\n
Addressing at the palace, Tinubu assured Nigerians he would not let them down.<\/p>\n
“To all the monarchies seated, may God bless you with robust health. God will not permit our nation to die. We will not be employed as a means to shame you. I will not let you down,” he replied.<\/p>\n
“The tour that we undertook and from which we have returned with a certificate is comparable to our own World Cup; I appreciate your efforts.”<\/p>\n
The Oba of Lagos commended the president-elect as a unique individual “destined for the highest levels of leadership.”<\/p>\n
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, Femi Pedro, former deputy governor of Lagos, Muiz Banire, former commissioner for environment, and Jumoka Okoya-Thomas, APC Lagos women leader, were present at the palace.<\/p>\n
