Abuja, Nigeria – August 29, 2025 – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially announced an upward revision of Nigerian passport fees, with the new rates set to begin September 1, 2025.

The update, communicated in a press release signed by ACI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer at NIS Headquarters, Abuja, is part of broader efforts to improve service quality and operational sustainability.

New Nigerian Passport Fee Structure for 2025

According to the NIS, the revised passport costs apply only to applications processed within Nigeria and are structured as follows:

  • ₦100,000 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity
  • ₦200,000 for a 64-page passport with ten-year validity

The NIS emphasized that this revision is necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of Nigerian travel documents and to ensure sustainable, efficient service delivery.

No Change for Nigerians in Diaspora

The Service clarified that Nigerians applying from abroad will continue to pay the current rates:

  • $150 for a 32-page passport (five years)
  • $230 for a 64-page passport (ten years)

This differentiation, the agency explained, is to ensure fairness based on processing and delivery logistics, while still maintaining global standards for Nigerian passport holders.

NIS Reaffirms Commitment to Service and Accessibility

In the official statement, the NIS assured Nigerians of its dedication to balancing affordability with quality, stating:

“The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians.”

This fee adjustment comes as part of a larger reform initiative aimed at enhancing service efficiency, upgrading operational standards, and ensuring the durability and global acceptance of Nigerian passports.
