Okene, Kogi State – Despite her suspension from the Senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the people of Kogi Central by launching two cutting-edge smart market projects in Okene and Okehi local government areas.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the senator emphasized that political distractions would not hinder her focus on delivering lasting development to her constituents. “Politics ends after elections; what matters is performance,” Akpoti-Uduaghan declared. “I represent all the good people of Kogi Central, regardless of political affiliation.”

According to a statement from her media office, the initiative is a key component of her broader constituency development blueprint aimed at transforming local trade hubs, enhancing grassroots commerce, and economically empowering women traders.

Smart Markets Designed for Growth

The two smart markets will be strategically located at Ihima Central Market in Oboroke (Okehi LGA) and a new community market site in Okene LGA, chosen for their high population density and accessibility.

Each market will feature:

  • 80 shop units, split between 40 lock-up stores and 40 open stalls

  • Solar-powered electricity systems

  • Boreholes for clean water access

  • Modern sanitation facilities

  • Sockets and truck-accessible loading bays

  • Security lighting for enhanced safety

The markets are slated for completion in November 2025, to coincide with the senator’s second year in office.

Widespread Support and Praise

Community leaders, women associations, and youth organizations attended the event and lauded Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s resilience and dedication, describing her as “a beacon of hope in the face of political adversity.”

In her remarks, the senator reiterated her inclusive approach to governance and pledged to roll out more impactful projects in the coming months. “Service to the people transcends political affiliation,” she noted. “The work continues, no matter the obstacles.”
