Uyo, Akwa Ibom – May 21, 2025 | Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic reforms are beginning to yield measurable outcomes, following initial hardship triggered by subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.

Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week in Uyo, Idris described Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as the catalyst of an “economic renaissance,” anchored on strategic investments, fiscal reforms, and inclusive development initiatives.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is steadfastly paving the way for Nigeria’s economic rebirth. These are not abstract ideas—we are seeing real outcomes,” Idris declared.

Key Achievements Under Tinubu’s Administration

Idris rolled out highlights of the administration’s two-year scorecard:

  • ₦2.5 trillion investment in road infrastructure in 2025—the highest in Nigeria’s history

  • Over 300,000 students benefitting from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund)

  • ₦200 billion support fund for nano and micro businesses

  • $450 million investment in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure

  • Creation of new ministries for Livestock and Regional Development

  • Launch of CreditCorp, giving Nigerians access to affordable credit for housing, healthcare, and daily essentials

The Minister described the country as a “vast construction site”, citing the Lagos-Calabar and Badagry-Sokoto superhighways, Kano-Kaduna Railway, and Alau Dam rehabilitation in Borno as examples of equitable infrastructure distribution.

Improving Macroeconomic Indicators

Idris cited new macroeconomic data showing real progress:

  • Headline inflation dropped to 23.71% in April 2025, from 24.23% in March

  • Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments surpassed $50 billion

  • Diaspora remittances reached $21.9 billion

  • Nollywood’s contribution to GDP hit over ₦730 billion

“These are not just statistics—they are real outcomes reflecting renewed investor confidence and the resilience of Nigerians,” the minister noted.

Public Relations as a Tool for National Messaging

Idris urged public relations professionals to become “central agents of national renewal”, leveraging values-driven storytelling to project Nigeria’s progress globally.

He announced the National Strategic Communication Framework (NSCF) as a new initiative by his ministry to deliver coherent and effective messaging about national development.

Governor Eno: Tinubu Inherited the Economic Crisis

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno voiced support for President Tinubu, stating that the current economic challenges predated his administration.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Eno praised Tinubu’s performance during his first two years, describing them as “wonderful” despite difficult circumstances.

“President Tinubu didn’t create the problems. He inherited them. I believe he’s doing his best and deserves our support to steer Nigeria through this transition,” said Eno.

Akwa Ibom: From Grassroots to Super Infrastructure

Eno also highlighted Akwa Ibom’s progress under his administration:

  • Improvement in schools, hospitals, and rural roads

  • Ongoing transformation into a tourist destination and regional economic hub

“We are now entering the phase of super infrastructure development. Akwa Ibom is open for business and tourism,” Eno said.
