In a swift response to the surge in violent attacks and killings across communities in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of elite police tactical units to the affected areas. This follows the escalation of brutal attacks since March 28, 2025, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area, where scores of innocent lives have been lost.

According to a statement from Force Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General has mandated Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Kwazhi Yakubu, who heads the Department of Operations, to lead the mission on the ground. DIG Yakubu arrived in Plateau on April 8, 2025, and immediately met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang to express condolences and assess the situation.

The police deployment includes:

  • Special Intervention Squad (SIS) platoons

  • Units of the Police Mobile Force (PMF)

  • Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs)

  • State-of-the-art surveillance drones

  • Air support with helicopters

The multi-pronged strategy aims not only to halt ongoing violence but to also prevent future attacks by establishing an active presence in high-risk zones.

The IGP emphasized that this reinforced police operation demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to restoring law and order in Plateau State. He urged residents to cooperate fully by sharing credible intelligence with law enforcement agencies.

DIG Yakubu’s visit with Governor Mutfwang also focused on identifying the root causes of the crisis, engaging community leaders, and working with stakeholders on long-term solutions to end the violence that has gripped Plateau communities.

“This decisive action,” said Adejobi, “reaffirms our dedication to ensuring peace and bringing those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice.”

The Inspector-General of Police further called on the public to remain calm and vigilant, promising that no effort will be spared in the pursuit of security, justice, and lasting peace in the state.
