Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has stated that a “wind of change” is gaining momentum and will sweep away bad leaders in the 2027 elections. Speaking on Thursday in Kano, where he welcomed defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NNPP, Kwankwaso predicted that security operatives and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be overwhelmed by the coming change.

Kwankwaso highlighted that Nigerians, particularly in the northern region, have endured years of poor governance, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. He said, “Nigerians and northerners, in particular, have suffered enough, and no amount of pressure, fear, or deceit will stop them from changing the situation.”

He further added that despite attempts by the ruling party to use security forces and electoral manipulation to retain power, the growing frustration among citizens will lead to significant change. “When the wind of change blows, you will see those who think they have security and INEC running helter-skelter, and Nigerians will make the right choice of those who will address their unfortunate situation,” Kwankwaso asserted.

Addressing the new NNPP members, the former Kano State governor expressed his satisfaction that they had decided to leave the APC after experiencing the nation’s challenges, including insecurity, poverty, and hunger. He emphasized that the NNPP is the only party capable of addressing these issues.

Some of the defectors at the event cited the people-oriented programs of the NNPP government in Kano State as a major reason for their decision to switch allegiance, noting the positive impact these policies have had on citizens’ lives.
