President Bola Tinubu assured Nigerians that the worst days for the nation’s economy are over. Speaking to the Yoruba Leaders of Thought at the State House on Friday, President Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and criticized state governors for hindering local government development.

Economic Recovery and Stability

President Tinubu acknowledged the economic challenges of the past year but expressed optimism about the future.

“It has been challenging, but also fulfilling. We have stopped the bleeding. Nigeria is no longer bleeding. We will now move to prosperity,” he stated.

He reassured Nigerians that the administration is working diligently to turn the economic tide, adding, “The worst is over for Nigeria. We will prevail.”

Local Government Empowerment

President Tinubu called for a more effective local government system to foster community development within a strengthened federal structure.

“Local government administration is being suffocated. States must do what is in the best interest of their administration. We need to adhere to fiscal federalism,” he said.

He criticized any attempts to centralize local government responsibilities under the federal government, calling it “criminal.”

Infrastructure and Development

Highlighting ongoing projects in healthcare, road construction, and education, the President urged state governors to focus on people-centric development plans.

“We are committed to ensuring that all Nigerians feel the impact of good governance,” Tinubu stated.

He promised that his administration would ensure value for every kobo spent, aiming to leave a lasting legacy of prosperity.

Commitment to Good Governance

The President assured that the administration would upgrade and construct infrastructure across various sectors, including health, aviation, transportation, and education.

“Nigeria will not print paper money and deceive itself. We have seen the baby coming out alive after terrible labour pains,” he added.

Reactions from Yoruba Leaders

The delegation of Yoruba Leaders of Thought, led by Hon. Bayo Aina, commended the President for his focus on infrastructure and governance.

“We salute your timely initiative to modernize the nation’s infrastructure. We are committed to your vision of Nigeria’s greatness,” Aina said.

President Tinubu’s address underscored his administration’s efforts towards economic recovery, local government empowerment, infrastructure development, and good governance. His assurance of improved public services aims to inspire confidence and support among Nigerians. The administration’s focus on fiscal federalism and transformative governance is expected to drive Nigeria toward sustained prosperity.
