Ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for April 18, these governors, who are key financial backers, are strategizing to ensure their voices are heard.
A source within the PDP Governors’ Forum revealed that discontent with the dominance of Atiku and Wike has spurred the governors to action. They argue that their substantial financial contributions warrant a greater say in decision-making. With meetings scheduled in the lead-up to the NEC gathering, the governors are poised to consolidate their influence. Their collective stance, particularly in funding and maintaining party structures at the state level, could significantly shape the party’s trajectory.
However, legal hurdles complicate the replacement of the suspended National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. Lawyers within the party assert that any attempt to appoint a replacement would be futile unless Ayu voluntarily resigns or withdraws his court appeal. Furthermore, legal challenges have been initiated to prevent certain individuals, including former National Chairman Uche Secondus and former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia, from participating in the upcoming NEC meeting.
