The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has made a heartfelt plea to the government to address the economic challenges facing the nation and extend support to those experiencing hardship. In a statement released on Ash Wednesday and Lent, the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, emphasized the importance of compassion and solidarity during this period of self-examination and sacrifice.

Okoh highlighted the need for individuals to reach out and assist those in need, echoing the teachings of Christ. He expressed concern for the many Nigerians struggling with financial uncertainty and limited access to basic necessities. Okoh envisioned a Nigeria where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, with leaders prioritizing the well-being of the most vulnerable in society.

The statement urged leaders at all levels of governance to recognize the urgency of economic challenges and take tangible steps to support those facing hardships. Okoh called for solidarity and commitment to creating a more inclusive and compassionate society, where marginalized voices are heard and their burdens alleviated.

Furthermore, Okoh underscored the significance of Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season, emphasizing themes of self-reflection, repentance, and spiritual growth. He encouraged individuals to use this time for introspection and to emulate the compassion of Jesus Christ in their daily lives.

Overall, the statement from CAN serves as a call to action for both leaders and individuals to prioritize the well-being of others and work towards a more just and compassionate society, particularly during the Lenten season.
