Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar criticized President Bola Tinubu for embarking on a private visit to France amidst Nigeria’s security challenges, urging Tinubu to step aside if he couldn’t handle national affairs. In response, the Presidency rebuked Atiku, asserting that Tinubu remained engaged with domestic issues and was in constant touch with officials and security chiefs. The Senate, upon resuming plenary, expressed concern over the escalating insecurity and re-invoked its resolution to summon security chiefs for an interactive session. Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives urged Tinubu to take decisive action to curb rising insecurity.

Atiku’s criticism of Tinubu’s trip to France underscored concerns over Nigeria’s security situation, with Atiku accusing Tinubu of neglecting critical issues while on a private visit abroad. However, the Presidency defended Tinubu, stating that he remained actively engaged in addressing security challenges and had approved funds for security measures in affected areas. The Senate, upon reconvening, emphasized the urgency of addressing insecurity and reiterated its plan to engage security chiefs for solutions.

Furthermore, the Speaker of the House of Representatives echoed concerns over insecurity, urging Tinubu to take bold steps to tackle the crisis. The abduction of school children in Ekiti State and the killing of traditional rulers highlighted the severity of the security situation, prompting calls for decisive action. Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State vowed to apprehend the perpetrators and called for heightened vigilance from security agencies.

The convergence of voices from political leaders, including Atiku, the Presidency, and the legislative chambers, reflects a growing recognition of the need for urgent action to address Nigeria’s security challenges. As the nation grapples with escalating insecurity, there’s a call for decisive leadership and collaborative efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
