According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Lagos, Nigeria’s economic centre, has been ranked as the fourth worst city to live in the world. The EIU’s 2023 Global Liveability report surveyed 173 cities and assessed them based on 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

Lagos was ranked above Algiers (the capital of Algeria), Tripoli (the capital of Libya), and Damascus (the capital of Syria). In the previous year’s ranking, Lagos held the second-worst position after Damascus.

However, Lagos has seen some improvements in healthcare and education, leading to its upward movement in the rankings. The report also mentioned that corruption remains a problem in Lagos, although there have been some additional public funds allocated for infrastructure and public services.

Vienna (Austria) and Copenhagen (Denmark) maintained their positions as the first and second most liveable cities in the world, respectively. Melbourne and Sydney (Australia) and Vancouver (Canada) also ranked high in the list.

It’s worth noting that in a survey conducted in 2017, Lagos was ranked as the worst city to live in the world, but its prospects improved in subsequent years. However, in 2019, Lagos was deemed the world’s most dangerous city to live in.
