Abba Kabir Yusuf, the next governor of Kano State, has urged all existing and potential lenders to the state government to cease operations immediately, stating that he will not recognise any loans secured by outgoing governor Abdullahi Ganduje after his victory.

On Friday night, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor-chief elect’s press secretary, issued a statement stating that from March 18 to May 29, no lender (domestic or international) may approve and issue a loan facility to the state government without the express consent of the incoming administration.
Recall that the Governor-elect issued a similar announcement on Thursday, directing all individuals, groups, and organisations to immediately cease any ongoing construction in public spaces.

Any such loan facility granted and issued to the Kano State Government between the date of the election and the date of inauguration without the specific knowledge and approval of the incoming government will not be honoured by the incoming administration, according to the statement.

“All existing lenders to the Kano State Government are thus notified that the new administration will renegotiate all terms and conditions for all existing loan facilities based on the utilisation audit/review of each loan facility,” stated the statement.

This advisory is issued in the public’s best interest.
