The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu has been proclaimed the winner of the presidential election.

In the small hours of Wednesday, Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared the results.

Yakubu stated that Tinubu received 8,794,740 votes in total.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 6,984,520 votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who received 6,101,533 votes.

“I am currently carrying out my duties as chief returning officer of the federation,” said the INEC head.

“I, professor Mahmood Yakubu, officially certify that I am the election’s chief returning officer for the general election of 2023. Election was contentious.

“Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having met the legal conditions, is hereby pronounced the winner and returned.”

Yakubu stated that the certificate of return for Tinubu will be issued on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
