Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a visit by APC presidential candidate Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to the governor at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Tinubu visited Wike following the APC presidential campaign rally at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt. He was accompanied by his running partner, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, among others.
The PDP Presidential Campaign Council said in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Thursday by the Council’s spokesman in the state, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, that Tinubu’s visit, which was attended by Wike’s entire cabinet, marked the end of Nigerians’ speculations and the governor’s continuous denial of his current political status.
Nwibubasa stated, “Today marked the end of all speculations by Nigerians and hypocritical denials by Governor Nyesom Wike of his current political standing, as Wike hosted APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the council chamber of the Rivers State Government House with all members of the Rivers State executive council present.”
“This has not only validated the consistent stance of the Rivers state Presidential Campaigns Council that Governor Wike, who has devoted himself entirely to anti-party activities, has criminalized the mandate of the People’s Democratic Party, which provided him with the platform on which he was elected governor.
“Governor Wike’s past statements against President Buhari’s policies and poor performance in governance, as well as the manner in which he vilified and spoke contemptuously about Bola Ahmed Tinubu for telling Nigerians that he wants to continue Buhari’s legacy of good works, are indicative of the fact that he has lost all integrity and credibility in order to embrace and consummate his marriage to a party he called Cancer.
“It appears that his minions have ignorantly welcomed the display of disgrace, and if they do not revert to sound logic, they will all become internally displaced politicians in the near future.
“The people of Rivers state would have benefited more if the five hundred million Naira disbursed for the failed mobilization of people to the APC presidential rally had been invested in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for wealth creation and job creation for the surging population of unemployed youths or for the payment of retirees’ benefits and gratuities.
“It is now clear why Governor Wike fled to the courts to seek judicial asylum, knowing he was about to desecrate the mandate of The People’s Democratic Party.
“As a lawyer, Governor Wike should know that you cannot indefinitely suspend the hands of justice while continuing to violate all recognized laws that govern a system. The time of reckoning has arrived. The party’s leadership must move to rescue what remains of the PDP in Rivers State.”
