The Nigeria Immigration Service has directed US-based visa applicants to submit applications directly at Nigerian diplomatic missions.

Nigeria visa applications in US will now be handled directly by Nigerian diplomatic missions following the decision of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to discontinue the use of a third-party visa processing provider.

The new arrangement takes immediate effect, requiring applicants seeking entry visas to submit their documents at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC, or the country’s consulates in New York and Atlanta. The NIS announced the policy change on Thursday, saying the measure will remain in place until further notice.

Nigeria Visa Applications in US Now Processed at Diplomatic Missions

In a statement issued by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the immigration agency confirmed that it had formally ended its partnership with Online Integrated Solution (OIS Services), the company that previously managed Nigeria’s visa application and submission centres across the United States.

The agency did not explain why the contract with OIS Services was terminated.

According to Akinlabi, applicants must now submit visa requests directly to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in the United States while authorities implement the new arrangement.

Embassy and Consulates Ready to Receive Applications

The NIS said the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, along with the consulates in New York and Atlanta, has introduced measures to ensure visa applications are received, processed and issued without unnecessary delays.

Officials encouraged travellers to follow updates from the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria’s diplomatic missions for any future adjustments to visa application procedures.

What the Change Means for Travellers

The policy marks a significant shift in how Nigerian visas are processed for applicants in the United States. Individuals planning to travel to Nigeria should expect to complete their applications directly through official government offices instead of external visa centres.

Applicants are advised to review current submission requirements, appointment procedures and documentation guidelines before visiting the embassy or consulates, as administrative processes may change during the transition.

Background

Many countries engage external service providers to assist with visa application logistics, including document collection and appointment scheduling. However, immigration authorities retain responsibility for approving or rejecting visa requests.

By bringing the submission process back under its diplomatic missions, the Nigeria Immigration Service says it remains focused on improving service delivery and ensuring efficient visa processing for travellers.

Conclusion

The Nigeria visa applications in US process has changed following the NIS decision to discontinue third-party visa services. Until further notice, all applicants must submit their requests directly through Nigeria’s embassy in Washington, DC, or its consulates in New York and Atlanta while monitoring official channels for further guidance.
