Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he will contest the Peter Obi 2027 presidential election race, insisting that no attempt to block his ambition will succeed.
Obi made the pledge in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the OBIDIENT Conference and official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC.”

Addressing members of the Obidient Movement and party supporters, Obi said he remains resolute about his political future.
“I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it is held in their bedroom,” he declared, adding that if authorities refuse to transmit results, “we will transmit them for them.”

Why Obi Left the Labour Party
Obi revealed that he exited the Labour Party after being informed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognize the party’s leadership if he remained.
According to him, he was told the federal government did not want him on the ballot.
“I left LP when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognise its leadership,” he said.
His move to align with the ADC reflects ongoing political realignments shaping the Peter Obi 2027 presidential election landscape.
Economic Concerns and Debt Warnings
Obi criticized the borrowing record of the current administration, warning that rising public debt could burden future generations.
He alleged that recent loans would be repaid between 2045 and 2050, long after current political officeholders have exited power.
The former governor urged Nigerians to “rescue Nigeria” through accountable governance, fiscal discipline, economic reforms, youth empowerment, institutional strengthening, infrastructure development, social investment, debt sustainability, transparent budgeting, public sector efficiency, inclusive growth, national productivity, democratic accountability, policy consistency, human capital development, anti-corruption enforcement, and sustainable planning.
Education, Healthcare, and Ethical Leadership
Outlining priorities for the Peter Obi 2027 presidential election campaign, Obi emphasized education and healthcare as foundations for national development.
He argued that countries achieving sustainable growth invested deliberately in human capital.
Obi also pledged to tackle corruption, insisting that ethical leadership at the top would set a new tone across government.
“When I became governor of Anambra, I advised my wife to forget about the Office of First Lady because we were not elected together,” he said, highlighting his stance on public office accountability.
Mobilisation Ahead of 2027
Tanko Yunusa, coordinator of the Obidient Movement worldwide, called on supporters to mobilize nationwide behind the ADC platform.
Ben Smith, Akwa Ibom State coordinator of the movement, described the next election as generational in significance.
