The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action.
The decision was confirmed in a press statement issued on January 1, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and released to the media in Abuja.
According to the statement, the Police had earlier announced plans to resume enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy from January 2, 2026, after a public notice issued on December 15, 2025, as part of measures to enhance internal security and public safety.
Court Order Halts Enforcement
However, the Force disclosed that it was subsequently served with an interim court order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, dated December 17, 2025, restraining the Police from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the lifting of the order.
In compliance with the directive, the Police said it has placed the enforcement of the policy on hold nationwide.
Police Challenge Order, Case Adjourned
The NPF said it has entered appearance in the case and taken steps to challenge the interim order in line with constitutional provisions.
According to the statement, the Force has raised preliminary objections and formally applied for the vacation of the order while maintaining respect for judicial authority.
The court has adjourned the matter to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while carrying out its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.
The Police assured the public that further updates would be provided after the court reaches a determination, stressing that the decision to suspend enforcement was taken strictly in compliance with the subsisting court order and in the interest of public order and national security.
