Former Minister of Information and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Professor Jerry Gana, has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the PDP.
Speaking in Minna at the weekend during the election of new PDP executives in Niger State, Gana said Nigerians had experienced enough disparity between Jonathan’s administration and the leadership of former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.
“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another president ruled for eight years and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and they are now calling for Jonathan’s return,” Gana declared.
He emphasised that PDP remained a grassroots-oriented and democratic party with the will of Nigerians firmly behind it. According to him, the party is poised to reclaim power in 2027.
The Niger PDP congress produced Alhaji Aliyu Halidu as the new state chairman with 1,289 votes, narrowly defeating Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi, who polled 1,269 votes. Other winners included Alhaji Khadi Kuta as Secretary (unopposed) and Mrs Salome Ndakosu as Women Leader with 1,373 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu pledged to unite the party and position PDP as the leading force to unseat the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.
