Kayode Fayemi Dismisses Defection Rumors, Reaffirms Commitment to APC
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has firmly denied rumors suggesting his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement shared on his X page on Monday, Fayemi reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the ruling party, emphasizing his status as a founding member.

“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Fayemi stated. “As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.”

Fayemi’s statement comes in the wake of growing speculations on social media, fueled by the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Despite these rumors, Fayemi made it clear that he remains a dedicated member of the APC, advocating for internal democracy and greater inclusion within the party.

He further explained, “While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”

Fayemi’s statement serves as a strong rebuttal to the speculation surrounding his political future, affirming his continued loyalty to the APC and his ongoing efforts to push for reforms within the party.
