President Bola Tinubu has reiterated the importance of traditional institutions in promoting national unity, governance, and economic development, following a significant meeting with Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a post shared on his official X handle, President Tinubu revealed that their discussions focused on finding solutions to the nation’s challenges, with a particular emphasis on cultivating a unified national identity and forging stronger partnerships for economic growth.

The President expressed confidence that the engagement would bolster his administration’s efforts in achieving a more cohesive and prosperous Nigeria.

The Role of Traditional Institutions in National Development

At the meeting held at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos on Sunday, President Tinubu highlighted the growing need for traditional institutions to play a central role in fostering unity and economic development across Nigeria.

“Now more than ever, the role of our traditional institutions is crucial for fostering national cohesion, governance, and economic development at various levels,” the President stated, emphasizing the significant influence these institutions have in the country’s progress.

In his conversation with the Awujale, President Tinubu focused on how traditional leaders can contribute to addressing Nigeria’s issues, especially in unifying the diverse ethnic groups and promoting shared national values.

Collaborative Solutions to Nigeria’s Challenges

According to President Tinubu, their dialogue explored practical and constructive solutions aimed at solving some of Nigeria’s most pressing issues. He underscored the importance of building a unified national identity—one that encapsulates the country’s core values while driving progress and prosperity for its people.

“We discussed constructive solutions to Nigeria’s challenges, emphasising the need to build partnerships and cultivate a strong national identity. This identity should embody our values as a nation while fostering progress and prosperity for all citizens,” President Tinubu stated.

The President expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of such collaborations, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to working closely with traditional leaders to ensure a brighter future for Nigeria.

Strengthening Partnerships for a Prosperous Future

Tinubu’s meeting with the Awujale of Ijebuland further demonstrated his administration’s proactive approach to leveraging traditional leadership as a critical pillar for national cohesion and development. The President emphasized that the strengthening of these partnerships is key to achieving a more unified and prosperous Nigeria.

“I am very encouraged by this positive engagement with Kabiyesi as our administration continues to work assiduously towards a stronger, prosperous, and more united Nigeria,” he added.

The conversation marks a step forward in fostering collaboration between the government and traditional institutions, ensuring that all segments of Nigerian society are actively involved in shaping the country’s future.
