Ondo State Governor and governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to running an inclusive and participatory government. Speaking after being declared the winner of the 2024 gubernatorial election, Aiyedatiwa promised to prioritize the welfare of Ondo’s citizens and called for unity among political stakeholders to achieve collective progress.

INEC Declares Aiyedatiwa Winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner. The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, at INEC’s Akure headquarters.

Aiyedatiwa secured 366,781 votes, defeating Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 117,845 votes, and Dr. Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), who managed 2,692 votes. INEC reported a total valid vote count of 497,077, with 11,886 rejected votes out of 508,963 total votes cast.

A Call for Unity

In his acceptance speech, Aiyedatiwa extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents, particularly Agboola Ajayi, urging collaboration to build a better Ondo State. “Now that the elections are over, it is time to rededicate ourselves to the service of our dear state,” he stated.

He also pledged to foster economic growth and ensure that Ondo remains a beacon of hope and prosperity for generations. “We will continue to prioritize the welfare of our people and create a brighter future for all,” he said.

Gratitude to Stakeholders

Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to INEC for conducting a credible election and commended security agencies for maintaining peace throughout the process. He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their support.

Dedication to Governance

Aiyedatiwa dedicated his victory to God and the memory of late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, promising to honor their legacies through his leadership. “I pledge to work tirelessly to justify the trust you have reposed in me,” he added.

Looking Ahead

As he prepares for another term, Aiyedatiwa emphasized the need for unity and collective effort to drive Ondo State forward. His inclusive governance strategy aims to ensure every citizen has a voice and a role in the state’s development.
