With the Ondo State governorship election approaching, 17 political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), signed a Peace Accord on Friday to ensure a peaceful electoral process. This landmark event took place at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Chairman of the National Peace Committee, urged candidates to accept the election outcome if deemed free and fair, while also advising peaceful and legitimate channels for addressing any grievances. “Let peace reign during this election, setting a precedent for other off-cycle elections,” he stated, commending INEC and security forces for maintaining peace in the state.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu assured Ondo residents of smooth Election Day logistics, highlighting that over 17,000 officials and materials would be transported across 4,154 locations, with special arrangements for riverine areas like Ese Odo and Ilaje.

Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun confirmed the deployment of 43,157 security personnel across polling units, wards, and strategic locations to safeguard the electoral process. “We are committed to averting any threats of violence and ensuring a secure environment for voters,” Egbetokun emphasized.
