Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ridiculed the political camp of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for selecting the All Peoples Party (APP) amidst ongoing political tensions. Wike expressed disbelief over Rivers State “degenerating” to supporting the APP, highlighting the state’s political decline.
During a civic reception organized by the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress (RIPCO) in Amadi-Ama, Wike took the opportunity to criticize Fubara’s camp, emphasizing that money does not equate to political capacity. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, former governors, and members of the G-5.
In his speech, Wike targeted detractors within the Rivers House of Assembly, particularly Ijaw representatives, for criticizing Governor Fubara’s performance. Wike asserted that these individuals do not represent the entire Ijaw community but a few ungrateful members.
Wike also questioned the idea of an Ijaw governor in Delta State, noting his efforts in making Siminalayi Fubara, an Opobo man, the Rivers State governor. He emphasized that, despite internal opposition, Rivers State politics would remain resilient under his influence.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, in his remarks, urged for reconciliation between Wike and Fubara, emphasizing that peace-building efforts should continue. He expressed optimism that the current tensions in Rivers State would be resolved, allowing for greater unity in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde humorously appealed to Wike not to “set Oyo State on fire,” praising Wike’s development achievements in Rivers State and calling for peace among their political allies.
