Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has refuted allegations of incitement against the federal government, dismissing them as baseless distractions aimed at tarnishing his character. In a statement released recently, Obi reaffirmed his dedication to fostering constructive dialogue and inclusivity rather than engaging in divisive politics.

The former Anambra governor emphasized his unwavering commitment to unity and advancement, rejecting any involvement in reactionary divisive politics. He categorically stated that he does not base his political aspirations on sectional or ethnic interests and condemned attempts to portray him as such.

Obi’s response comes in the wake of accusations leveled against him by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos. Umahi accused Obi of inciting people of the south-east against the federal government over the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project. Umahi claimed that Obi supported the demolition of structures for road infrastructure during his tenure as governor of Anambra.

However, Obi refuted these claims, asserting his advocacy for unity and constructive engagement rather than divisive rhetoric. He described the allegations as baseless distractions and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting dialogue and inclusivity in addressing national issues.

Obi’s response underscores his stance on constructive politics and his determination to rise above ethnic or sectional interests for the greater good of the nation.
