In response to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) demand for the resignation of Senator Godswill Akpabio following allegations of budget padding by suspended Senator Abdul Ningi, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, denounced the PDP’s stance.

Adaramodu rebuked the PDP’s call, stating that it amounted to political chicanery and an attempt to deceive the public with baseless claims of budget manipulation. He emphasized that Akpabio has no intention of resigning, as he has not engaged in any misconduct warranting such action.

Adaramodu expressed surprise at the PDP’s failure to comprehend the proceedings of Tuesday’s plenary session, where Ningi failed to substantiate his allegations, leading to his suspension.

Contrary to the PDP’s assertions, Adaramodu clarified that there was no discreet insertion of N3.7 trillion into the 2024 budget for nonexistent projects. He affirmed that the budget passed by the National Assembly and signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being diligently implemented by the Federal Government.

Adaramodu dismissed the PDP’s claim as a fabrication, suggesting that the figure of N3.7 trillion exists only in the imaginations of its proponents.

He further clarified that the Senate’s decision to address the issue in the Committee of the Whole was made to ensure transparency and fairness, and did not violate any constitutional or procedural rules.
