The Emir of Borgu Kingdom in Niger State, HRH Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro, has urged President Bola Tinubu to sign the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services (NiHFS) Bill into law as a crucial step in addressing the country’s security challenges. He praised the dedication of the officers and men of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service for their contributions to national security.

During a courtesy visit by the organization’s management team, led by its Commander-General, Dr. Wole Joshua Osatimehin, at his residence in Abuja, the Emir emphasized the importance of giving formal backing to the NiHFS through legislation. He believes that this move would empower the organization to collaborate effectively with the police and other security agencies in addressing security concerns across the nation.

Expressing regret over the diminished traditional roles of rulers due to constitutional amendments, the Emir highlighted the effectiveness of the NHFSS in maintaining security within local communities. He assured the NHFSS management team of his support and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would sign the bill once properly informed.

Osatimehin, in turn, shared insights into the NHFSS’s decade-long existence and its nationwide presence. He highlighted the NHFSS’s achievements in intelligence gathering, information sharing with security agencies, and successful operations against criminal elements, including kidnappers, bandits, and cattle rustlers.

The Deputy Commander-General of NHFSS (Technical Services), Ambassador John Metchie, underscored President Tinubu’s pivotal role in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and pledged NHFSS’s readiness to contribute significantly to enhancing national security.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a plaque and certificate to Emir Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro as a patron of NHFSS, further solidifying the partnership between the organization and traditional leadership in addressing security concerns.
