The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized the Federal Government’s planned unbundling of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), stating that the exercise will not benefit Nigerians.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, expressed concerns about the proposed unbundling, suggesting that it poses a great danger to the power sector.

He argued that the restructuring plans are reminiscent of the semantics used during the failed privatization exercise of the sector.

Ajaero believes that the primary motive behind the proposed restructuring is to prepare the TCN for eventual takeover by associates of the ruling elite, expressing fear that it could lead to a crisis in the power sector similar to that witnessed in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

He urged the government to review the previous privatization exercise and consider alternative policies that prioritize the nation’s interests over those of private entities.
