President Tinubu Calls For Reconciliation Between Gov. Simi Fubara and Nyesom Wike

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has taken swift action to resolve the political feud between Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara and his predecessor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which had been causing a political crisis in the state.

President Tinubu used the opportunity of a meeting of the National Police Council held at the State House in Abuja, which both Fubara and Wike attended as members, to facilitate a reconciliation between the two political allies.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also attended the meeting and serves as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), announced that President Tinubu held discussions with both parties aimed at restoring peace in the state.

Despite their prior disagreements, Fubara and Wike exchanged pleasantries outside the Council Chambers venue of the meeting. Governor Mohammed further disclosed that opposition governors have decided to collaborate with the president due to his impartiality in not interfering with gubernatorial cases presented in the courts by PDP members.

The peace initiatives coincided with the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the council. Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, noted that the council confirmed Egbetokun’s appointment based on his excellent performance since his acting appointment in June 2023 and his provided blueprint for enhancing the country’s security, making him a suitable candidate for the role.
