Political Leaders In Nigeria Lack a Proper Understanding of Developmental Issues -Ex-president Obasanjo
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed his concern about the quality of leadership in the country, stating that many people seeking leadership roles lack a proper understanding of development issues.

Speaking at the launch of “Reclaiming the Jewel of Africa,” a book authored by Olusegun Aganga, former Minister of Finance, Obasanjo emphasized that those aspiring to lead Nigeria often have limited knowledge of what the country truly needs.

He asserted that to achieve significant economic and political growth, the new leaders of Nigeria must address the obstacles hindering the nation’s progress. However, he warned against completely dismantling the country’s reforms, as doing so would be counterproductive and harmful.

Obasanjo lamented the emptiness of many aspiring leaders concerning matters of development. He stressed that leadership is the key to unlocking Nigeria’s potential and allowing the country to reach its divine stature. To accomplish this, leaders must possess essential qualities such as good character, virtues, orientation, and a genuine love for humanity and fear of God.

The former president urged the nation to focus on resolving leadership issues, as this would lead to significant achievements and transform Nigeria into a powerful nation. He expressed skepticism about the motivations of those seeking positions of power, suggesting that they may not fully comprehend the importance of peace, security, stability, development, growth, and progress for the country. Obasanjo advocated for a holistic approach, believing that peace, security, democracy, and prosperity must all be addressed together for Nigeria’s advancement.
