During a reception held in his honour by the Lagos State government, President Bola Tinubu emphasized that he would not contribute to the economic deterioration of the country by maintaining the petrol subsidy. He expressed his belief that the financial drain caused by the subsidy should not be allowed to continue under any circumstances.

Tinubu stated the need to redirect resources to fulfill the promises made during his campaign and emphasized the importance of effectively managing the country’s resources to meet its obligations to Nigerians. He rejected the notion of personally benefiting from the subsidy and stressed that he was elected for a different purpose.

Tinubu assured Nigerians of forthcoming initiatives that would benefit citizens of all ages and committed to collaborating with the National Assembly and state governors to realize his administration’s agenda. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed their support for Tinubu’s policies and pledged to work together to ensure that Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Former Governor Raji Fashola and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also affirmed their continued support for Tinubu. They lauded his decision to remove the petroleum subsidy and address the arbitrary exchange regime, considering them important steps towards the country’s economic repositioning.
