I’m Not Challenging Tinubu, I’m Challenging the Process that Led to His Victory -Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, claims he is merely contesting the procedure that led to Bola Tinubu’s announcement as president-elect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Tinubu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the February 25 presidential election last month.

Obi challenged the outcome in court, citing irregularities on the part of the electoral commission.

Accordingly, the court of appeal granted Obi permission to access all critical election materials used by INEC. But, Saturday, LP accused INEC of denying Obi’s attorneys access to the documents despite a court order.

Obi stated in an interview with Arise TV on Monday that he had no intention of contesting the election’s “results.”

He stated that INEC, as a public agency, must always be open to Nigerians’ scrutiny.

“INEC is a public institution that must be accessible. So if you do something and people are unsatisfied, you should be able to accept criticism,” Obi explained.

“INEC has conducted an election and pronounced the winner, but I am requesting access to the materials used to determine the outcome. I am not requesting that you alter your statement.

“I am not contesting their assertion. Alternatively, I do not contest who they claimed to be. I am not contesting the outcome in any way. I dispute the manner in which they arrived at their conclusion.

“And unless we do so, we will not be able to halt the election fraud we witnessed. The procedure through which individuals enter the office is considerably more fundamental than their subsequent actions.

“There is a method to doing tasks and reaching every destination. “A process is essential.”
