The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday reported recovering 1,671 Permanent Voter Certificates (PVCs) from an apartment in the Olodi-Apapa neighborhood of Lagos State.

Thereafter, three arrests were made in the apartment, but the major suspect was believed to be on the run.

In addition, the flat contained ballots, cutlasses, and Indian hemp.

Our newspaper has learned that the startling discovery was found during yesterday’s preliminary examination of an incident in the region.

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Isang Akpaumontia, who paraded the suspects and recovered PVCs, ballot papers, and other materials in front of journalists at the Ikeja Cantonment, stated that the arrest and recovery were the results of an anonymous tip.

The majority of the seized PVCs had the year 2022 as the registration number, while others had the years 2011, 2012, and 2021; all of the owners were Lagos State residents.

Akpaumontia told reporters, “Early today (yesterday), three young men were apprehended carrying 1,671 PVCs.” This occurred after preliminary information was obtained. We were able to apprehend them with assistance from the Department of State Services, DSS.

“They were apprehended with drugs, a blade, charms, and over a thousand PVCs.” They were apprehended in the general region of Apapa, in a residence where we tracked them down. The owner of the residence, who is the key suspect, was located at a hotel. But he departed.

“We are going to turn over these suspects and evidence to our immediate headquarters so they can take the appropriate action, since things must be done properly to deter others from thinking they can break the law without consequence.”
