A federal high court in Lagos has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to electronically transfer the results of the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections held on March 11 in the state.

The order was given on Friday by the presiding judge, Peter Lifu.

The judge ordered the electoral authority to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to upload a scanned copy of the EC8A to the result viewing portal of INEC (IReV).

According to the judge, the results must be uploaded immediately following the conclusion of voting in all polling units, and the results sheet must be posted in each PU immediately following voting in the state.

The judge also granted a mandamus judgment requiring INEC to enforce Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act of 2022 on the delivery of election materials by employing unbiased, qualified, and dependable logistic providers that are non-partisan.

Lifu issued the directives while ruling on an ex parte motion marked FHC/L/CS/370/2023.

The motion was brought by the Labour Party, its Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and 37 others.

The petitioners contacted the court through their attorney, Abass Ibrahim.

The hearing on the substantive subject is scheduled for March 7.
